Our Chapter History
First meeting held June 7, 1971
Original organizing members were: Dean Airy, Wayne Christensen, Allen Guy, Jr., Kenneth Olson, Byron Young, Robert Wise, William Griswold and Thomas Tanke
Initial petition to ASSE for Chapter status was September 7, 1971
Chapter Organized October 22, 1971
Formal charter presentation January 27, 1972

First Hawkeye Safety newsletter distributed to members May, 1979
First student section of the Hawkeye Chapter was established in the 1973 calendar year at Iowa State University (Cyclone Section) with 16 charter members.
First Hawkeye Chapter-sponsored golf outing held May 7, 1993. This outing became an annual memorial outing in honor of the late Dr. Jack Beno, Professor, Iowa State University beginning in 1995 and, with the passing of long-time chapter member and past president Bill Dickenson, became the Beno/Dickenson Memorial Golf Outing in 2008. All proceeds are donated to the Jack Beno Memorial scholarship fund for Occupational Safety students.
